Lacombe City Council has began their strategic plan which will guide the next four years and beyond for the City

“This planning session began with Council’s vision for the next 25 years and then we refined to say, ‘What steps can be taken in the next four years to get us towards that vision?’,” City Chief Administrative Officer Matthew Goudy said.

Much of what was discussed at the first planning meeting was around what Councillors spoke about during their campaigns last year

“We don’t have a draft ready yet, so I can’t share exact details but I can say it won’t be a surprise for anyone who engaged with these councillors during the election,” Goudy said. “They are very much sticking to what they heard and what was said during that campaign.”

Once the City releases the draft of the strategic plan, Lacombe residents will have the opportunity to weigh in.

“It will be at our Coffee with Council session at the Trade Fair in Lacombe. There will also be an opportunity for online engagement as well,” Goudy said.

The plan, while focused on the current term, also has long-term plans and goals in mind.

“They (City Council) want to have a view of things they can actually accomplish. They are realistic about the capacity of the organization to deliver what they want to see,” Goudy said.

Council has already instructed Administration with some of their top priorities

“They have also set some new priorities based on what we have accomplished over the first year,” Goudy said.

This is the first strategic planning meeting after the last Council completed 36 out of 42 goals in the 2014 strategic plan.

“A lot of the last Council’s mandate was accomplished during the term and these strategic plans are important documents that really do guide the efforts and resources of the City of Lacombe,” Goudy said.

He added to watch out for the incoming online engagement which will come from these meetings

“Will look for feedback in the form of in-person and if you want to phone in, I’m sure we will take that as well,” he said.

He added, “I was pleased to work with Council because their wasn’t any surprises. They are very true to what they spoke about during their campaigns.”
