A breakthrough mobile service ideal for seniors who are active and relatively independent is available via the Lacombe FCSS.

And thanks to the Lacombe Legion Ladies Auxillary #79, a recent donation made it possible for FCSS staff to purchase four more GOSAFE Lifeline units.

“They do lots of work in the community, and we approached them for some funds because we have a waiting list for the GOSAFE units,” said LaRee Rankin, senior services coordinator with Lacombe FCSS.

The pendant is a two-way voice feature that gives users peace of mind knowing that a Lifeline response associate is just a button press away, explained Rankin.

She said it also has the AutoAlert Fall detection that can automatically call the Lifeline Response center if a fall is detected.

It works wherever there is cellular service.

“We had bought some, but there is only so much in the budget. So we bought a few more at the end of the year, and then the Ladies Legion bought four,” explained Rankin, adding how grateful they are for the support from the Ladies Legion.

“It’s great for our active seniors who are still in their homes, maybe they are still driving or out walking,” she added of the units. “As long as there is cellular coverage, they can push the button and call for help.

“It’s fabulous. It also has fall detection on it, and can detect 95 per cent of the falls and it’s waterproof,” she said. “It of course works in the home, too, which is great especially if you live alone. You can call for help.”

Rankin said folks can drop by and check out the products, and they don’t have to be of senior age.

Other health issues may make the units suitable for use, such as some who are dealing with multiple sclerosis for example.

There is a cost per month for the units, and clients can cancel the service at any time. Seniors with a lower income are also eligible for a level of reimbursement, said Rankin.
