UPDATE: Red Deer man dies following major collision

A 58-year-old Red Deer man was pronounced dead at the scene dead after his semi trailer collided with another semi trailer Jan. 11th on Hwy. 2 near Lacombe.

At approximately 4:00 p.m., Innisfail and Ponoka Traffic services responded to a collision on Highway 2 near Lacombe involving two semi trucks.

An unoccupied semi with two empty enclosed trailers was stationary on the side of Hwy. 2 waiting for repairs when another semi heading southbound collided with the back of the rear trailer. Emergency triangles were in place at the time of the collision.

No one else was injured in the collision, and southbound traffic was diverted for several hours during the investigation.

Innisfail and Ponoka traffic services along with an RCMP Collision analyst from Red Deer continue to investigate all factors contributing to this collision.

The name of the deceased will not be released.
