L.A. Design Centre, after only operating in Lacombe since May 2018, has already garnered a nomination for the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce Small business of the year.

President Craig Darrell was grateful for the nomination and the Chamber for putting on the gala on Oct. 26. He says the story of L.A. Design came initially as an added offering to L.A. Carpet and Tile.

“We found that it was a good way to be a one-stop shop for everything interior design. One thing led to another and then we decided to bring in a lot of Canadian manufacturers like Cloverdale, Fusion Mineral Paint and Elite Window Fashions to support local so that we can offer more to our clients,” he said.

Having local products and supporting local artisans has always bee a primary focus for L.A. Design and Darrell says they always try to support local products big and small.

“We actual use a candle supplier out of Calgary that literally hand pours their own candles, so there is a lot of different artisan things we like to help with,” he said.

Part of supporting Lacombe is also providing excellent customer service in order to keep shoppers in Lacombe for their interior design needs.

“You are not a number to us. We really want to get to know the client’s project and find the best solution for them. I think that hands-on approach — people tend to really like,” he said.

Darrell also said that being part of a supportive business community allows his business to prosper.

“Whenever someone is need, businesses always step up to help the community and the response has been great from the community, supporting us right from the very start,” he said.

That support has aided L.A. Design in being able to give back to the community through a variety of initiatives.

“One major initiative we have got behind is the Paint It Purple campaign for Big Brothers Big Sisters. We are trying to support their 40 mentors in 40 days and one thing we have done to add to that is 10 per cent from the month of September go directly to support that initiative,” he said.

Darrell said L.A. Design has great plans for the future.

“We will be expanding into more decor and we will keep responding to the needs of industry as trends change. We want to stay on top of colour trends, design trends and have the best product offerings for out clients,” he said.

He added, “It is a great honour against LA Liquour and Soapy’s Car Wash. They both do so much so much for the community and operate fantastic businesses here in town.”
