The community of Lacombe is rallying behind Lyndon Geates and his family after he was involved in a serious accident that left him dealing with serious injuries

A fundraiser at Lionel’s No Frills, and another fundraiser on Aug. 30th at the Lacombe Boston Pizza, are helping raise funds to aid in Geates recovery.

“He was hit while he was on his motorcycle near Lacombe,” Christina Petrisor, organizer, said. “We are here to give 100 per cent of the profits to a local family, Stephanie and Lyndon Geates to help and assist with his medical expenses, travel costs and ongoing recovery.”

According to Petrisor, Geates has been released from hospital and is recovering at home home with his family and pets — but faces a long recovery.

“He is going to have an extensive long-term recovery and he will have to do a lot of travelling — with possible further surgeries,” he said. “We don’t know what his recovery will look like.”

The fundraiser at No Frills, which included a charity barbecue and silent auction, is a way to take away the financial strain on Geates and his loved ones.

The charity is able to donate 100 per cent of the funds raised due to donations from the community,

“The main thing I would like to say is that we cannot thank the local residents, the local businesses, Lacombe County, the City of Lacombe and all the non-profits enough,” Petrisor said. “Everyone in the community has come together to donate.

“Thank you for the contributors and sponsors of this event, whether you gave cash, art or merchandise — we would not do this without the support of the community.”

The community can continue to support Geates by donating at the Lacombe CIBC branch or through the gofundme page which was set up to help Geates.

“They have set a goal of $5,000,” Petrisor said. “I hope we seriously exceed that. As we know, $5,000 is not a lot of money when you are looking at extended recoveries. I would like see us raise way more because $5,000 will not take this family very far with what they are looking at.

“I hope we aim for $10,000 between the two fundraisers and if we can do it, I will be very happy.”

The event on Aug 30th is at Boston Pizza, where Geates was employed before his accident.

“That money will also go 100 per cent to Lyndon,” Petrisor said.

She added that the organizers of the fundraisers are also willing to help in non-monetary ways including providing transport.

“If you are inclined to help this family, please go to CIBC and make a donation. Every penny counts,” she said.
