Ellis Bird Farm (EBF) opens for the 2019 season on Monday, May 20th.

We’re beginning our 37th year with excitement and many updates and new projects around the site.

We will be celebrating the launch of Myrna Pearman’s new book Charlie, Winnie and the Bluebirds, the much-anticipated story of the history of EBF. Myrna will be signing books at 1:00 p.m, so purchase a signed copy and meet the author, our knowledgeable and very talented site manager and resident biologist.

At 2:00 p.m., we will officially open our new viewing tower. This unique structure, donated and constructed by Barry Simpson of Wel-Can Welding in Red Deer, will provide a 360 degree view of EBF and enable visitors to observe the birds and other wildlife from a fantastic new vantage point.

At 4:00 p.m., we will officially open the new Fred Schutz library. There are many amazing literary treasures to be viewed and read in our newly-dedicated library space in the Ellis Centre, including many of Fred Schutz’ collection of nature-related volumes.

As well, our Ellis Cafe will be open for business with its new operators, A Little Bit of Thyme, out of Blackfalds.

Cat Perry, our avid owl-watcher, will be on hand to talk to visitors about Ellie and Albert and their 2019 hatchlings.

The “Year of the Grouse” display will be open in the Visitor Centre in addition to our previous existing displays and educational tools.

We can’t wait to share Ellis Bird Farm with you for another year. Hope to see you on Monday, May 20th.
