The Lacombe Farmer’s Market returned for their 2018 season and residents were out and about looking to find fresh and local produce, goods and baked goof

Kim Schermers, president of the Lacombe has been a great Farmer’s Market Association, said they are hoping to grow throughout the summer.

“It has been a great start to our market season,” she said. “We have had great weather and we have had over 70 vendors apply to come today, with most of them turning out.

“We have vegetables, there’s sewing, baking flowers, food trucks — it has been a great start to our market.”

This year, the Farmer’s Market is returning with brand new management and vision at their location in Michener Park.

“We have a whole new board and we have brand new market manager,” she said. “We run every Friday from 9 a.m from today, May 18th until October 5th — which is the Thanksgiving weekend.”

Schermers hopes that residents flock to the market in greater numbers as the summer progresses.

“I was a bit of a slow start this morning, but it is the first market of the year and we are hoping to build some momentum,” she said. “We are hoping for a lot of foot traffic, with people coming out to eat lunch and check out the market.”

She added the market is looking to expand their products as well.

“We are always in the search for more venues,” she said. “We are a make it, bake it and grow it market, which is a Alberta Farmer’s Market requirement.

“If you are reselling, we don’t have go with that but if you make it, bake it or grow it — send an application in to lacombefarmersmarket.ca or visit our Facebook page.”
