The Lacombe Flying Club is helping Lacombe residents get into the holiday spirit of giving with their Twinkle Tours.

The Tours, which begin No. 30th, allows residents to catch a glimpse of Central Alberta at night for the cost of a $60 donation to the Lacombe Food Bank

“This is the fourth year we have been doing it. I will start taking bookings on Nov. 26th and we start flying on Nov. 30th. We will fly up until Dec. 21st,” Jon Fromm, president of the Flying club, said.

The idea for the Twinkle Tours is a borrowed idea from Fromm’s past.

“The Flying Club was looking for a way to give back to the community and the idea actually came from my home town of Estevan Saskatchewan. Back in the 80s and 90s, the Flying Club there did something very similar. I felt free to steal the idea,” he said,

There is no set donation target, but the club is hoping to raise as much as possible.

“The Food Bank is one of those things that helps anyone in need and they do more than just food,” Fromm said. “When families fall on hard times, it is good to know the Food Bank is there for them, especially during the holiday season. The money we raise during the holiday season goes towards their ongoing operations.”

Central Albertans can, if they choose, make the Twinkle Tours a family event.

“We can take up to three passengers at a time, depending on size and weight of passengers as well as the power of the airplane,” Fromm said. “Each flight is about 25 to 20 minutes and in that time our typical tour goes from Lacombe, past the Prentiss gas plant and Joffree and then over between Blackfalds and Red Deer before swinging back to the airport.”
