The City of Lacombe will be hosting their very first Encore Under $100 Art Market in support of the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund.
The market, which is being held on Nov. 21 starting at 5 p.m. and Nov. 22 starting at 10 a.m., coincides with Light Up the Night and is a way to help both art enthusiast wanting affordable options for their homes and also artists looking to showcase their work.
“We will have well over 200 paintings, which is phenomenal and they will be all sorts of different sizes and mediums. It is looking really good,” Organizer Maureen MacKenzie said.
The majority of art up for sale is local, with some other Albertan artists also bringing in their work. Many of the pieces are on display are worth much more than the market’s limit.
The bulk of the art is local, but we do have some that are from north and south of us.
“Spending $100 on a piece that may be worth $300 is incredibly good value,” MacKenzie said, adding the artists are excited to sell their work.
Proceeds from the event goes to the Arts Endowment Fund, which helps alleviate costs for emerging Lacombe artists.
“We award it out in grants for continuing education in the arts. We have awarded dancers, painters, potters, metal smiths, film makers and the whole broad range of what the arts cover. A lot of times, our award-winners would not be able to attend the schools they have without the grant funding,” MacKenzie said
“It is a vital part of Lacombe, especially if somebody is attending ballet school in Montreal or New York City. We are glad to be able to help with some of those expenses.”
MacKenzie said the market is perfectly time, with Lacombe residents out for Light Up the Night.
“We thought this is a great opportunity because there is a lot of people there. It is also just before Christmas, so anyone looking for original cool Christmas presents — this would definitely be two days to be attending for sure,” she said.
She added, “I hope everyone comes out to Light Up the Night and takes in everything. We want to make it a wonderful community evening.”
