Her music swings effortlessly between a rich variety of styles and has invited comparisons to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tracy Chapman but Jenny Allen describes it as original, acoustic, folk and rock.

Previously opening for the likes of Taj Mahal, Jennifer Warnes, and Shawn Colvin, Allen says the past year has been a challenge and that she’s excited to be back playing live this Saturday in Lacombe.

Allen will be joined onstage by Peter Loughlin, and she says that after a year of COVID restrictions and uncertainty, they both have enjoyed the busy summer of live shows throughout small towns in Alberta and that more are planned in the future.

“We feel so blessed to be performing on stage again and keeping our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to continue doing so into the fall and winter seasons. I crave the interactive aspect of performing live,” says Allen. “Peter (Loughlin) and I have so much fun playing together, it’s addictive!”

Allen says that even though COVID made it difficult to perform she found ways to reach her fans and keep the music going.

“I did several live stream shows during COVID. They fill a niche and made it possible for many artists to continue building a following and can see them becoming an integral part most artists career paths but nothing beats performing live and in person. I would say (live streams) are here to stay for the foreseeable future though and I will definitely be doing more.”

Allen also hinted that they are working on new material and plan to hit the studio in the fall.

“My favorite songs are always the ones that aren’t finished yet. They’re the ones I can’t get out of my head.”

Allen will be performing at Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Lacombe Performing Arts Center.

Doors open at 7 p.m. with concert staring at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or
