The Bashaw RCMP is investigating after a pair of "suspicious" occurrences involving children have been reported in the communities of Alix and Bashaw.
According to RCMP media relations, the first incident was reported to RCMP on Dec. 4.
In the first incident, a 9-year-old girl was reportedly walking near the Alix grocery store on Dec. 3 around 3:20 p.m. when she was called over to a black car. The male in the car offered the 9-year-old $5, which she accepted.
The driver of the vehicle was a Caucasian male wearing a black jacket, sunglasses, a hat, and brown pants.
A second incident occurred in Bashaw on Dec. 4 around 4 p.m.
In this incident, the RCMP received the report of a "suspicious person" who jumped out and yelled 'boo' at several 9-year-old girls, scaring them.
The suspicious person is described as being a Caucasian male, with a heavy build, short brown and black hair, a black V-neck shirt and a "very deep voice."
"He tried to grab one of them and the girls ran away," said RCMP Media Relations Officer Troy Savinkoff.
According to Savinkoff, no injuries were reported to the girls in either of the above incidents.
"Although we can't confirm the intentions of the suspects in these two occurrences, I think it can bring to us the knowledge and the importance of safety around strangers, especially with our young children," said Savinkoff. "Being alone, unsupervised even in small towns, things can become very dangerous in a hurry."
Anyone with information related to the above two incidents is asked to contact the Bashaw detachment at 780-372-3593.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Alberta Crime Stoppers.
