Central Alberta Raceways (CAR) is gearing up for a full-fledged season packed with action.
The site is located at 6700 40 St. in Rimbey.
"We have oval on May 17 and 18, which is the season opener," said Roy Keessar, CAR president. "There will be several different classes racing both days."
Next up is the 'Idiots in Cars' event which is slated for May 24, he said, adding this is where folks jump in their front-wheel drive cars and smaller vehicles, and race on the rebuilt obstacle course.
Gates open at 11 a.m. with the racing starting at 1 p.m. Things wrap up by 6:30 p.m.
And on May 30, they have Sylvan Auto Parts and Hellfire Suppression Services presenting the Friday Night Street Legals, which start at 6 p.m.
"Anybody that has a street legal vehicle - as long as they have a helmet and their vehicle passes tech, they can race it. It's $30, and they can make as many passes as they wish," he explained.
"We had a young lady last year that did about 20 passes! She just kept driving around and around, and that really is the whole point of it. We are trying to get more people involved with drag racing. And hopefully, some of the younger generation will (come and join), too!"
This is followed with bracket racing on Saturday and Sunday (May 31-June 1) with the Canadian Motorcycle Drag Racing Association (CMDRA).
"This will be at the drag strip both Saturday and Sunday starting at 11 a.m. with the gates opening at 10 a.m."
Meanwhile, looking further down the road is the Mud Bog season opener running June 7-8.
"We will be having a few larger events this year, too. We also have Draggin' for Cash which is June 28-29. We are hoping for 150 cars - right now, we have more than 90 registered," he said.
"That will be a massive weekend for us."
Keessar said that ultimately, there will be plenty for fans to enjoy at the site over the months ahead.
"We have got a huge amount of races again this year - the schedule is full. We also have some big races coming with the 'Carnival @Cars' which is going to be exciting for the track, too. It's a full slate, and there will be a lot of good racing."
