Sexual assault charges have been laid against a Leduc RCMP officer stemming from a 2022 incident.
Following an incident which occurred in an Airdrie Hotel room in the early morning hours of Dec. 3, 2022, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate Leduc RCMP officer Cst. Bridget Morla for alleged sexual assaults.
ASIRT's investigation found evidence providing "reasonable grounds" that an offence had been committed, and the case was forwarded to the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) as required by the Police Act.
The ACPS review concluded that the evidence gathered met its standard for prosecution and recommended charges be laid.
Cst. Morla was charged with two counts of sexual assault on Nov. 29, 2024.
Released on an undertaking, Cst. Morla is scheduled for their first appearance in the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Dec. 12.
The release announcing the charges notes that with the matter before the courts, no further updates are anticipated.
ASIRT is an independent investigative body which reviews incidents involving all of Alberta's police force forces where there has been serious injury, death, or alleged misconduct.
