The Ellis Bird Farm is coming out of hibernation and getting ready for visitors.

New for the 2022 season is Red Seal chef Sheraz Khan. Staff at the farm said that visitors can expect to find Ellis Café classics like ice cream and homemade pie on the menu, with some new additions that will be posted on their website.

Another new feature at the farm is the expansion of the west wood trail and sandpiper pond walking loop.

The bird farm is also offering programs for visitors, including the Purple Martin Workshop. On April 9, purple martin experts from the Purple Martin Conservancy will be on hand for an in-depth chat about how to set up a house, attract purple martins and care for the nests.

For the younger

On August 14, the Bug Jamboree will be back. Visitors of all ages will be able to build bee hotels, go pond dipping or go on a mushroom hike. Some of the events at the bug jamboree require pre-registration.

The farm’s resident owls have also returned and have begun nesting. Virtual visitors can check out Ellie, Albert and their two eggs on the owl cam. The link for the owl cam and Bug Jamboree registration can be found on the Ellis Bird Farm Facebook.

The first official day of the season is May 23.
