The Town of Blackfalds is running a new Stuff-a-Bus campaign.

Residents of Blackfalds are invited to Stuff-a-Bus with food donations to help people facing food insecurity.

Community members are encouraged to take part in a community-wide effort to support the local food bank by participating in the annual 'Stuff-a-Bus" food drive on Saturday, April 5.

Stuff-a-Bus aims to collect non-perishable food items for the Beyond Food Community Hub, the Blackfalds Food Bank, and Blackfalds Family and Community Support Services (FCSS).

On April 5, school buses will be stationed at two convenient locations, IGA (6005 Parkwood Road) and Save On Foods (4500 Blackfalds Crossing Way, #105).

The event is organized by many dedicated community members, including Brenda Dennis, Administration Assistant with Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools' (RDCRS) Transportation Department.

"We are calling on the generosity of our community to help stock the shelves of our local food banks," said Dennis.

"Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in the lives of those facing food insecurity in Blackfalds."

Food recommended to be donated includes non-perishable items such as canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, and other pantry staples.

Monetary donations can also be made directly to the Blackfalds Food Bank.

Efforts such as Stuff-a-Bus fit into RDCRS current theme, 'Inspired by Christ on a Journey to Encounter, Nurture, and Serve.'

Throughout the school year, students and staff have been putting their faith into action through service projects and partnerships with charitable organizations, such as the Food Bank.

Community members can bring their food donations to either of the two locations on April 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

RDCRS serves over 9.600 students in 21 schools in Red Deer, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake, Rocky Mountain House, Innisfail, and Olds.
