During September, staffers at Cilantro and Chive stretched their #LeBurgerWeek celebrations for the full month.
They brought back some of their top burgers from the past eight years, including Reaghan Smith’s Dill Pickle Burger, Const. Smith’s Blue Line Burger, and Dr. Jody Carrington’s Eat Your Feelings Burger.
"Two dollars from every burger sold at our Red Deer location are going directly to KidSport Red Deer, and two dollars from every burger sold at our Lacombe location are going directly to KidSport Lacombe County," noted a release.
KidSport Red Deer chair Ray Savage said they support between 300 to 500 kids per year, and all money raised locally stays to support local kids. While keeping kids active is a main goal, he said the benefits of sport go much further than that.
"Statistics will tell you kids involved in sports at a young age continue to be active throughout their lives. They get purpose, direction, they learn leadership skills, they learn value, they learn determination, they learn commitment, they learn time management, they learn all of those things. We really like to instill in people, plus it’s fun, and kids deserve to have fun."
KidSport Lacombe County chair Paula Law said last year, they helped 136 kids, and they have already surpassed that number in 2024.
KidSport supports families who need financial assistance with sport registration fees. Province-wide in 2023, more than 17,000 kids were helped, with more than $5.9 million distributed supporting over 175 communities. The top five supported sports were hockey, soccer, basketball, dance and gymnastics.
"Thanks to the support of our beloved Burger of the Month Program, we were able to hand over $1,600 to KidSport Red Deer and $1,454 to KidSport Lacombe County," added the release. "And thanks to the amazing support we see from our guests month after month, we have had the opportunity to give back over $170,000 to local organizations over the past 92 months."
Meanwhile, the October Burger of the Month in Lacombe is Karlee and Spencer’s Mexican Smash. Two dollars from every burger sold is going to the Cousins Skateboard Community.
