Cilantro and Chive's January Burger of the Month guest chef in Lacombe was recognized in the community as a Leader of Tomorrow and she wanted to do what she could to support young people and their families in a time of need.
Kora Johnson, 13, provided the creative juices for 'Kora’s Spring Chicken Burger' which included a grilled chicken breast topped with arugula, watermelon and strawberries, with a strawberry vinaigrette on top of a pretzel bun.
Two dollars from every burger sold is going to her cause of choice - the Ronald McDonald House® in Red Deer.
“I just want to help families feel a little happier during hard times,” said Johnson.
“I think it’s super important for families to be together when they’re going through tough times, and it helps them have a cozy place to stay.”
Ronald McDonald House General Manager Deya Vance said they are grateful for the community support that allows them to provide an essential service to families with sick or injured children.
“Donations support accommodation, programs, meals and more that help lessen the financial, physical and emotional burdens of families on a pediatric medical journey. Families are much better able to support their child and each other when they can stay at RMHC Alberta.”
Thanks to the support of the Burger of the Month Program, Johnson helped to deliver $721 to the Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer.
Thanks to the support shown to the Burger of the Month program, staff has had the opportunity to give back over $177,000 to local charities over the past 96 months.
Meanwhile, the February Burger of the Month at the Lacombe location is 'Aaron’s one heck of a chicken parm
burger' created in collaboration with local guest chef Aaron Heck.
Two dollars from every burger sold goes directly to his cause of choice - the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton.
