Lacombe County will launch the Mirror Infrastructure Mapping Project on April 4.
The project is being done to better understand and document the condition and location of water and sewer systems within Mirror.
The Mirror Infrastructure Mapping Project will run through to the end of May and is part of Lacmobe County's commitment to maintaining reliable infrastructure for county residents.
The assessment will be conducted by Lacombe County staff, along with specialized consultants and contractors.
"This will help ensure our records are accurate and current, ultimately improving future maintenance and repair efforts," the Lacombe County press release from April 3 stated.
During the work on the project, residents can expect:
- Crews to open manholes to visually inspect sewer conditions while mapping key components such as manholes, water valves, hydrants, and curb stops
- A ground penetrating radar (GPR) scan will be done by a contractor to locate underground water lines; if the trial is successful, a full scar across Mirror will be conducted
- Crews will be cleaning sewer pipes using high-pressure water equipment and vacuum trucks; the cleaning will then be followed by inspections using closed-circuit TV cameras. The cleaning may cause some noise, but it will have a minimal impact on community members
- After the GPR scans, crews will use hydrovac equipment to confirm the exact locations and depths of water lines. This will only be done on County utility right-of-ways
Work on the project will happen Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, overnight work may be done on occasion as well.
"We'll ensure residents receive advance notice," Lacombe County staff said.
While this project is ongoing, temporary restrictions on roads, sidewalks, or driveway access may occur.
"If your home is impacted, our crews will directly notify you and ensure at least one access point remains open. Please reach out if you have special requirements, and we'll gladly assist," Lacombe County staff said.
Residents may also notice temporary sewer odours while flushing the toilet.
"Pouring water down drains and unused sinks or tubs can help mitigate this issue. We also recommend avoiding laundry during daytime hours when sewer cleaning is happening in your immediate area."
The Mirror Infrastructure Mapping Project is vital to the health and safety of the community, and it will ensure reliable infrastructure now and into the future, Lacombe County staff said.
"We appreciate your patience and cooperation during these essential activities. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work together to improve our community."
