The Lacombe Chamber of Commerce’s annual Passport to Christmas program is underway as the holiday shopping season forge ahead.
"It's all about encouraging local shopping, and to help support our local businesses," said Wendy Buyar, chamber executive director.
About 80 businesses are taking part this year in Lacombe, plus several in Eckville, Clive, and Bentley as well. Passports can be picked up at any of these businesses, said Buyar. (A complete list of participating businesses can be found on the chamber's website, or by following them on Facebook.)
The way it works is that for every $10 spent at a participating business, the customer receives a stamp on their passport. Each passport can be dropped off at draw boxes at the participating businesses to be entered in draws for ‘Lacombe and District Shopping Bucks’.
Lacombe Bucks can then be spent at any of the vendors in the program.
The program runs through to Dec. 24, and prizes will be drawn in early January.
The grand prize is $3,000 in Lacombe and District Shopping Bucks, which can only be used in the participating businesses. The second prize is $1,500 in Lacombe and District Shopping Bucks and the third prize lands you $1,000 in Lacombe and District Shopping Bucks.
And even if you only partly fill up your passport, you aren’t out of the running for a prize – you could be eligible to win $500 in Lacombe and District Shopping Bucks.
"We will also be doing 10 draws of $100 throughout Passport to Christmas," said Buyar. "Those ones will be announced on social media - there will be two in Bentley, one in Clive, two in Eckville, and five in Lacombe."
