Gunnar Albrecht - Lacombe County Division 6

Gunnar Albrecht

Running for: Lacombe CountyDivision 6 Councillor

Why do you want to serve on county council?

I’d like to serve on the county council because it gives me the opportunity to be involved in the community through Boards and contribute to the well being of our county thru decision making. Serving on county council provides the opportunity to have a positive influence on many areas of the County, from the Council itself to the many Boards that Councillors represent on.

What do you feel you can bring to council?

If elected I feel that I can bring my 10 years of experience as Deputy Reeve and 3 years as county councillor (Flagstaff County) to Council. In those years I focused on collaboration with towns and villages, informed decision making, transparency and building relationships. It is important that we are able to represent our ratepayers while still focusing on what is best for the County as a whole.

What is your vision for the community/what are your priorities if you are elected?

My vision for Lacombe County is to ensure that agriculture, development and industry are able to coexist and continue so the County is able to thrive into the future. My priorities for Lacombe County are agriculture, policy review to ensure development equity and fiscal responsibility. It is vital that we ensure that we are transparent and have open lines of communication with our ratepayers.

What if your professional experience and how do you feel it will lend itself to municipal government?

I farmed in Flagstaff County for 36 years. While farming I also served on the county council for 4 terms. During those terms I served as Board Chair for Flagstaff Family Community Support Services, as Board Member for Flagstaff Inter-Municipal Partnership Committee, Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, Agricultural Services Board, Family and Community Services Association of Alberta, Battle River Alliance for Economic Development as well as numerous other boards and committees.
