An investigation into a shooting in Maskwacis has lead to charges against one and an attempted murder warrant for another.
On Aug. 20, 2021 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Maskwacis RMCP responded to a shooting in the townsite area of Ermineskin Cree Nation.
Early reports to RCMP indicated that multiple shots were fired and a vehicle fled the scene.
Police responded to the area and located two females with serious life threatening injuries; they were both transported to hospital for medical treatment.
Two suspects involved in the shooting were identified, one of which has been arrested and charged.
Jerry Johnson, 20, from Maskwacis Alta., is facing criminal code charges for unauthorized possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a release order.
Johnson was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released on multiple conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Tuesday Oct. 12, 2021 at 8:30 a.m.
Police identified the second suspect involved was a 20-year-old male also from Maskwacis, Shayden Rain.
Maskwacis RCMP are currently requesting the public’s assistance in locating Rain as he has been charged and is wanted for the following criminal code offences:
• Attempted murder with a firearm (x2);
• Discharge firearm with intent (x2);
• Pointing a firearm (x2);
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• Using a firearm in the commission of an offence.
Rain is believed to be residing within the Maskwacis or the Wetaskiwin area. He is described as being five-foot-five-inches tall, 119 lbs, with brown eyes and black hair.
Rain is considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public. If located, the public is asked to call 911 immediately.
