In co-operation with Blackfalds RCMP, the Ponoka detachment was able to find and arrest a male who was thought to have been holding a female against her will in a stolen vehicle.
On Oct. 30, Blackfalds RCMP received a report of a female supposedly being forcibly confined in a truck by a male armed with a knife.
The vehicle was headed to Ponoka and the Ponoka RCMP was called to assist.
The stolen vehicle was located at a gas station, where the male, 35-year-old Tyler John Figley of Medicine Hat, was arrested, still in possession of a knife.
The female was found hiding behind the cashier counter.
Further investigation reveled that the pair were known to each other and had been travelling together to the central Alberta area. It was determined that the female had not been held against her will and the truck had been stolen from Medicine Hat the previous day.
Figley, who was on a recognizance for another offence and supposed to be on a 24-hour curfew, is facing several charges: four counts of failing to comply with a recognizance, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break-in instruments and possession of stolen property over $5,000.
The female was released without any charges.
Figley was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear on Nov. 5, 2019 in Ponoka Provincial Court.
