A Ponoka area resident has been honoured with the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Those awarded with this medal, which commemorates the coronation of King Charles III, must have made a significant contribution to Canada, or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada, according to a release from Ponoka-Lacombe MLA Jennifer Johnson's office.
Each MLA across Canada is given the privilege of presenting one nominated and deserving constituent with this medal, making it a very rare and distinct honour.
Ponoka constituent Debbie Zepick was nominated and chosen to receive the medal this year.
With more than 40 years of experience in education and music, Zepick has used her talents and gifts to invest in the lives of others. Through choir, drama, summer camps and school, she has touched the lives of thousands of children, teens and young adults.
"The music and the plays have certainly been a drawing card, but it’s the love and commitment of Debbie that inspires and draws more than anything else. Her hard work, generosity, and love are at the heart of the success that surrounds her. Through the many concerts she organizes, conducts and presents, she has raised over a quarter million dollars so far for the Life Orphanage in Tanzania, changing lives around the world for generations to come."
It is for these reasons, among many others, that Zepick was nominated and chosen to receive the King Charles lll Coronation Medal, continued the release.
"This medal is a visible and tangible way to recognize outstanding individuals who have made a difference in their communities or abroad.
Zepick was presented with the medal at a concert in Clive on Dec.14. The concert, which featured 120 children, raised nearly $10,000 for the Tanzanian orphanage.
