Following a recent widespread data breach, PowerSchool is offering two years of free identity protection and credit monitoring services to those affected.
Wolf Creek Public Schools notified parents via a letter on Jan. 7, that the division had been impacted by the breach in December and some students' and teachers' personal information may have been accessed.
The breach involved current and past student and staff information stored within the PowerSchool Student Information System.
According to WCPS, the compromised student information includes student names, mailing addresses, dates of birth, home phone numbers, and in some cases, basic medical information.
No financial information related to individuals in WCPS was involved.
On Feb. 3, PowerSchool announced it's offering two years of complimentary identity protection services through Experian to students and educators whose information was involved.
For involved students and educators who have reached the age of majority, in addition to Experian’s identity protection services, PowerSchool is also offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services through TransUnion.
Experian IdentityWorks Membership includes internet surveillance for the selling of personal information on the dark web and fraud mediation tips.

The data breach, which occurred between Dec. 22 and 28, 2024, impacted school boards in multiple provinces.
"As soon as PowerSchool learned of the incident, we engaged cybersecurity response protocols and mobilized senior leadership and third-party cybersecurity experts to conduct a forensic investigation of the scope of the incident and to monitor for signs of information misuse," PowerSchool stated on its website.
"We are not aware at this time of any identity theft attributable to this incident."
In the coming weeks, PowerSchool says Experian will be emailing impacted individuals with further notification about their information that was involved in the breach and the resources being offered.
