The Lacombe Police Service recovered a stolen vehicle after a highway collision on June 16.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., a Lacombe Police Service member was conducting patrols and saw a red 2004 Ford F-350 parked at the west end of Henderson Way in Lacombe.
When the officer turned around to investigate, the vehicle began to drive away, and a query of the license plate revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Airdrie.
The vehicle was then seen turning westbound onto Highway 12 and then proceeding northbound on Highway 2.
To initiate a safe stop, Lacombe Police coordinated with nearby officers and members of the Ponoka RCMP.
During this time, the suspect vehicle intentionally rammed a marked police vehicle before continuing northbound in the median of Highway 2.
With the risk level increasing, all attempts to stop the vehicle were halted in the interest of public safety.
However, shortly after, Alberta Sheriffs located the abandoned suspect vehicle further north in the median.
With assistance from RCMP K9 and drone support, Lacombe Police were then able to track the suspect to a nearby rural property west of Highway 2.
There, the driver was found hiding and was arrested without incident.
The driver, 24-year-old Kyle Robinson, from Grimshaw, Alta., was then transported to the Lacombe Police Service Cells and held for a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
Robinson is facing multiple charges, including:
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Resist/Obstruct Peace Officer
- Mischief over $5,000
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000
- Failure to Stop After an Accident
The Lacomeb Police Service commends the coordinated efforts of its members and partner agencies in safely resolving the incident.
