Those interested in trying their hand at roller hockey won't want to miss out on a 'try it' day coming up soon in Lacombe.
The session is set for April 13 at the Gary Moe Auto Sportsplex, in Echo Energy Arena 1.
Registration is required by emailing lacomberollerhockey@gmail.com, but there is no charge to take part. There aren't precise times set as of yet, but folks can keep in touch via email for those details as well.
"We are getting the registrations in, and I'd like to try to push it a bit more," said local organizer Karen Holmans, adding representatives will also be attending the annual Spring Active Living Fair on April 2 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre to spread the work further.
For the 'try it' event, the City of Lacombe is helping to support the venture, as is the Alberta Minor Roller Hockey Association, which will help to provide roller blades for kids who don't own a pair.
Holmans said organizers want to see what the interest level is locally, and then they hope to start up Friday night shinny sessions to help bolster the program even further.
She also noted for those who can't make it on April 13, it would be great for them to reach out to Lacombe Roller Hockey anyways so as to possibly take part in future events - like the aforementioned shinny nights.
"We would also then have their email addresses and contact information to keep in touch with them, too - if it doesn't work out for them to come on April 13."
As mentioned, registration is required so the association representatives know how many pairs of roller blades, and in what sizes, to bring along on April 13.
Roller hockey is growing in popularity across Alberta, but its appeal is growing on an international basis as well, everywhere from Europe, Africa, and Central America to across the United States, China, and Australia.
