Blackfalds Council confirmed a request to apply for approval from the Provincial Government to establish a municipal operated Alberta Registries Office.

The Registries Office will be located in the Town office at the Blackfalds Civic Centre and will be scheduled to open in the Spring of 2019.

“Blackfalds has been lobbying to have a registries office in our community for many years. This initiative is proactive because it will allow a Registry service to be available in our community a lot sooner than traditional methods would,” stated Mayor Richard Poole.

He added, “It is exciting because this approach, endorsed by Council, will see our staff provide another important service to our community using an innovative and cost-effective model.”

While its population continues to show unprecedented growth, the Town continues to look for innovative ways to bring new services that will better serve residents. Bringing a Registries Office to Blackfalds is part of that vision.

Council has been lobbying the Provincial Government to place a Registries Office in the community for a number of years. Through discussions with the Province, the Town explored the idea of operating an Alberta Registries office in its Municipal Office which would expediate the application process.

Council and Administration have determined that this would be the most effective way to bring this service to the Town. The Town would commit, for a determined period of time, to get it established and operating, after which time it would be evaluated to determine how the service would continue for the long term, which would include transition to the private sector.

The development of this service and its ultimate delivery will be based on a sound business plan and development strategy. It is anticipated that the offering of this service from our Municipal facility will increase the brand exposure for the Town while providing additional employment opportunities.

Following the approval process, updates will be provided to Council and a comprehensive marketing campaign will accompany the launch of this endeavor.
