The Oxford School building in Bentley will have its fate decided in the fall.

During the regular Bentley town council meeting on May 10, Mayor Greg Rathjen and council gave residents in attendance the opportunity to speak to council regarding the closing and possible demolition of the Oxford School building.

The building was closed to the public on April 18 after the building was deemed unsafe.

Two of the residents in attendance that were registered to speak voiced concerns regarding losing this heritage building, but that they also understood the safety concerns.

During the meeting CAO Marc Fortais provided a summary of the topic and finding for discussion and the history and Carma Homes, MBA, P. Eng., LEED AP presented the findings of the Oxford School Condition Assessment.

As a result of discussions and proceedings council decided to proceed with keeping the building closed to the public until a public information session can be held in the fall. After that, a decision will be made.
