Blackfalds RCMP execute search warrant seize drugs and guns

Firearms and drugs were seized after RCMP executed a search in Red Deer County earlier this month.

On Feb. 3, after a four month long investigation, the Blackfalds RCMP GIS Unit with the assistance of Innisfail GIS, Red Deer Alert, Blackfalds Provincial Traffic Section, RCMP Police Dog Services, and Blackfalds Detachment members, executed a search warrant on England Way in Red Deer County.

As a result, police seized 44 grams of suspected fentanyl, 11 grams of suspected cocaine, nine grams of suspected methamphetamine and $4,600 in Canadian currency.

RCMP also seized 10 firearms, two of which were loaded and prohibited and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

“We are pleased to see a successful outcome to this four month long investigation,” said Dan Martin of the Blackfalds RCMP detachment, “ working in partnership with our surrounding detachments we were able to make significant arrests, seizing drugs and firearms that would have caused harm to the communities we serve.”

Police have charged Scott Adam Mckay (40), of Red Deer County, with 62 offences including:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)

· Careless use of a Firearm (x11)

· Fail to comply with release condition (x10)

· Possess weapon contrary to order (x24)

· Possession of a restricted firearm (x10)

· Possession of a Prohibited Firearm (2)

· Possession of property obtained by crime

· Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited

Jonathan Murray Pears (31), of Red Deer, has also been charged with 23 offences including:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)

· Careless use of a Firearm (x10)

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x8)

· Possession of a restricted firearm (x2)

Kayla Theriault (34), of no fixed address, has been charged with 24 offences including:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)

· Careless use of a Firearm (x11)

· Unauthorized possession of a firearm (x8)

· Possession of a restricted firearm (x2)

Pears and Theriault were both released from custody with their next appearance on Mar. 3 in Red Deer Provincial Court. Mckay was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance.
