The 2020 capital budget included the construction of a new RV dump station to replace the existing facility located at the corner of Westwood Drive and Stanley Street.

With the new Multiplex Arena expansion project moving forward and the condition of the existing facility, the need to relocate the existing RV dump station’s location is now forthcoming. Administration considered various options and reviewed similar central Alberta facilities including Sylvan Lake, Olds and Penhold. Options included a portion of the existing commercial lands owned by the Town directly west of the dog park, All-Star Park, or a location at the old Public Works off of South Street directly west of the Waste Transfer site. The review also took into account improvement and land costs, as well as service and timeframe constraints.

This capital project was referred back to Administration by Council at the January 28 Regular Council meeting following considerable discussion over the options provided.

The item came back for review to the April 20 Standing Committee of Council meeting, where the Committee recommended that the relocation of the new RV dump station to the north side of the camp grounds at All-Star Park adjacent to the Wadey Centre be brought forward to a Council meeting for formal approval. The recommendation was then brought forward and accepted at the April 28 Regular Council Meeting. Furthermore, Council voted to keep the RV dump station a free service for all users.

Richard Poole, Mayor of the Town of Blackfalds is very happy with the location, and “would like to thank Council for ensuring the best site was chosen and Administration for the thorough review they conducted in considering the location. To have the dump station near the campground makes both logic and financial sense. The site provides easy access requires minimum disturbance, aligns with tourism initiatives, and provides much needed camping facility amenities to the campsite area.”

The project will proceed this summer alongside the construction of the Multi-Plex Expansion.
