The City of Lacombe has approved the initiatives that will receive funding from the 2022 Recreation and Culture Grant Program.

This is the ninth year of the grant program and the city said that this is one way to support new local programs and services that enhance the quality of life of residents through recreation and/or culture.

“The City is excited to collaborate with community organizations to give residents opportunities to enjoy recreation and culture experiences in supportive physical and social environments,” said Sandi Stewart, manager of community development.

The City of Lacombe provided $20,000 to facilitate the 2022 recreation and culture grant program. Grant submissions totalling $26,946.80 were received for consideration. The Lacombe and District Recreation Parks and Culture Board approved the allocation of $17,015. and the remaining funds ($2,985) are still available to be applied for.

“The approved projects will benefit many in our community. Those with dementia can become active mentally and physically. Community families can enjoy spending time together. Programs encourage teens to be active, promoting free, inclusive recreation opportunities. Plus, everyone can learn about local indigenous history and cultural practices through the Historical Society’s new program,” said Stewart.
