Council adopted Bylaw 400.23, which amends Land Use Bylaw 400 to improve permitting and development processes to make it easier for people to access municipal services.
“Council is pleased to see a significant red tape reduction measure in this bylaw that allows the Municipal Planning Commission to focus only on complex or controversial development proposals,” said Mayor Grant Creasey. “Routine development applications that do not generate any public feedback can be approved in-house, thereby reducing processing time and providing greater clarity for developers and businesses.”
Along with some minor revisions, the revised Land Use Bylaw includes a number of major amendments to improve approval processes, with a particular focus on residential, commercial and industrial development.
The bylaw streamlines procedures for the development of a new business in an existing building, and eases on-site parking requirements for businesses located in existing downtown buildings.
It also includes better flexibility for landscaping requirements on commercial and industrial developments, and increases the size limitations on secondary and garden suites.
