Long time Lacombe resident Tenny Corkery recently celebrate her 90th birthday but because of the ongoing pandemic she couldn’t gather with friends and family like normal.

Instead, her loved ones surprised her with a drive by birthday party outside the Lacombe Composite High School. Her nephew took her out to dinner on Sunday and then drove her past the school where everyone was waiting in their vehicles.

Many vehicles were decorated with birthday balloons and streamers as they drove by Corkery’s car and wished her well on her special day. In total, there were 30 cars full of people waving and celebrating the 90-year-old.

Corkery moved to Lacombe in 1968 with her late husband, and they operated the Corkery Drug Store for many years in the city.

A close friend of Corkery Duane McCartney submitted the photos and information to the Lacombe Express.
