At their regular council meeting on March 24, 2020, Council approved and awarded Delnor Construction and Eagle Builders the Multi-Plex Expansion Construction Management Services.

Council previously approved the $20 million facility which would include a library and twin arena for the 2020/21 Capital Budget. An additional $2.5 million was also approved for the parking lot and sewer upgrades, along with $300,000.00 for storm water upgrades. Approximately $1M will be provided by the AJHL owners for the team’s portion of the building, which gives the Town of Blackfalds $23.8M of approved budget.

“Council considered the continuation of this project very carefully. We are confident that moving forward will have no impact on upcoming budget discussions, and in today’s reality we are excited that the project is utilizing Eagle Builders, a local and well-respected company,” explained Mayor Richard Poole. “The Multi-Plex will not only be an exciting venue in a couple of years but its construction will provide much a much-needed stimulus to Blackfalds at a time when it is needed most.”

Over 19 Requests for Qualification were submitted to the Town of Blackfalds earlier this year and staff worked diligently with ACI Architects Inc. to review the best and most affordable option for the community.

“In these times, we need something to look forward to. This project will not only support our local business Eagle Builders, it will supply jobs, benefit the economic community of Blackfalds and give our town another thing to be proud of,” stated Director of Community Services, Sean Barnes.

ACI Architects will work with the Town, Delnor Construction and Eagle Builders to employ economies of scale in order to keep construction costs down and stay within the approved budget.
