Lacombe City Council has approved an additional allowance for the Facility Rental Assistance Grant (FRAG).

Council approved an additional $14,000, which increased from the $6,000 that was initially offered as one of the City’s COVID-19 measures to support local community event organizers. In addition to the funding commitment, Council has also continued its policy to relax eligibility for FRAG.

“Lacombe City Council recognizes our community groups rely on a space rental for a variety of functions, including raising money for their organizations,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “By reducing barriers such as the cost of renting at the LMC, our community groups can focus on ensuring the vitality of their operations.”

The FRAG program, which assists community event organizers (groups and individuals) to host activities at a variety of City venues, is administered by the Lacombe & District Recreation, Parks & Culture Board.

Eligibility includes showing the cost of renting the City facility is a barrier, organizers (non-profit groups) are Lacombe-based and event proceeds stay in the community.

Recent examples of community events supported by the FRAG include Big Brothers Big Sisters Great Big Christmas Dinner and the Backyard Friends Community Suppers.

An increase to the allowance for FRAG enables the Rec Board to temporarily expand the program to help more organizers host events in Lacombe following COVID-19 restrictions.
