Blackfalds minor hockey teams were some of the first players to glide across the new ice surface at the new Eagle Builders Centre in Blackfalds.

The newly completed facility open Nov. 10. to host it’s first minor hockey game, the Blackfalds Bulldogs will play their first game on their new home ice on Nov. 19.

Blackfalds Town Council voted four to three, back in May to approve the final and guaranteed maximum price of the $24.6M capital budget which includes $18M for the arena, including the JR A team addition and $6.6M for the Library.

The Blackfalds Public Library will also be located in the Eagle Builders Centre.

“There are a lot of highlights at our new space. Our gaming room under the staircase, our outdoor patio, the windows, our location and visibility off Broadway and of course, being a part a busy high traffic space in Town at the arena and having the Bulldogs as neighbours,” said Carley Binder, Library Administrator. “We will have a fireplace area, which is a very popular spot for our patrons to enjoy. Our children’s area, Wiggles, the snake and some of our shelving, everything else will be new.”

“We have had generous donations from Outsource Installations, Nova Chemicals, and many patrons who have donated funds, so we could purchase new furnishings and soft seating,” said Binder.

The library board has also accumulated some reserves over the last five years in preparation for the new library and to purchase new shelving.

“Most of our shelving will be mobile, so when we have larger events in the future, we can move the shelving off to the side to accommodate the event. The second-floor shelving is all mobile, for this reason.”

The library was scheduled to open to the public on Dec. 6 but as of Nov. 16, the date for moving in and when the library would be open to the public had been postponed with no future date set.
