Since Diabetes Canada started hosting its semi-annual clothing donation drive-up events in 2020, Canadians have donated more than 450,000 lbs of clothing and small household goods that have been used to help raise funds to support the more than 11 million Canadians affected by diabetes.
Diabetes Canada will be in Lacombe on Sept. 16 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the No Frills at 5700 Hwy 2A with a truck ready to be filled with gently used clothing and small household donations.
Sean Shannon, president and CEO of National Diabetes Trust, said, “Our friendly staff are excited and ready and our trucks will be waiting to be filled across Canada including here in Lacombe with your donated gently used clothing and small household goods.
“At this time of year, people are de-cluttering around the house and preparing for fall and winter. It’s a perfect time to donate your unwanted items to Diabetes Canada.”
Your support helps support research for people living with diabetes and gives children living with Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to attend Diabetes Canada’s summer camps designed with their needs in mind.
“Thanks to our generous donors and volunteers we also divert about 100 million pounds of clothing and small household items from community landfills annually,” said Shannon. “I hope everyone will come help us fill our truck.”
For those unable to make it out to the community clothing donation this Saturday, they can donate used clothing at one of the charity’s donation bins or schedule a free home pick up.
