Lacombe County is honoured to accept a second generous donation of land from local residents, Frank and Rosalie Kuhnen. Located on the east side of Lacombe County, the 65 acres of land runs along the north side of the Red Deer River and will remain in a natural state for the public to use for passive recreational purposes.
“We are excited to have a peaceful retreat in the east part of Lacombe County, where the public can enjoy the tranquility of nature,” said Reeve Paula Law. “The gift of this land from the Kuhnen Family exemplifies the importance community residents place on managing green space for the betterment of current and future generations.”
In 2015, the Kuhnen’s donated 140 acres of land north of Blackfalds on Lacombe Lake – aptly named Kuhnen Park – which was also intended for recreational use by the public. The Kuhnen’s most recent donation area is located on the east side of Lacombe County.
“We have worked with the Kuhnens on both donations and appreciate the generosity from their family to protect these invaluable lands for future generations to enjoy nature,” said Dale Freitag, Manager of Planning Services. “The Kuhnens had noted how much they enjoyed using these lands and wanted to share the enjoyment they have had using them with everyone.”
Plans will be announced in 2019 regarding a grand opening celebration to formally recognize this generous donation from the Kuhnen family.
