Lacombe’s art community is looking to honour the late Bob Creurer with a new award that will handed out every year at the Lacombe Art Show and Sale.
Maureen MacKenzie, City of Lacombe Community Services executive assistant, said the new award will be created within the Lacombe Arts Endowment Fund in order to award $250 every year to the winner of the Bob Creurer Memorial Student Art Award, along with $100 going to the winner of the honourable mention.
MacKenzie said the Arts Endowment Fund is currently looking for donations towards the award, which requires $10,000 in the bank in order to award students every year based on a 3.5 per cent interest rate.
MacKenzie is excited to be able to honour the legacy of Creurer
“Bob was a strong member of the community in the arts world,” Mackenzie said. “He was a six-year member of the Arts Endowment Fund and he was a a strong volunteer for art in the park.
“He did all sorts of wonderful activities for the kids. He would assist us with fundraising events and other events.”
Creurer personally created in many different art mediums.
“Bob was an amazing artist who started off doing landscapes,” MacKenzie said. “He did some pretty cool three-dimensional pieces for his yard and then ventured off into multimedia works of arts.
“He was a strong member of the Lacombe Art Guild and he loved seeing other people enjoy the arts, either through creating it themselves or being able to see the art at the LMC or around town.”
MacKenzie hopes that the art community continues to donate towards the fund in order to honour Creurer.
“It would be a tremendous way to honour him and make sure his legacy continues,” she said.
She added Creurer’s family is thrilled to see memorial funds directed towards this award.
“They see it as a tremendous way to keep Bob fresh in our memories. They are very happy we are doing this for him,” MacKenzie said.
The City of Lacombe will accept donations made by cash, cheque or credit card.
