Five months into the Lacombe Centre Mall project and things are on schedule and going ‘famously’, according to Kristal Heise of Mahalo properties and the Lacombe Centre Limited Partnership.

“We are well underway with the Peavey Mart expansion, we’re basically expanding them 4,000 square feet into the mall,” says Heise, adding that Peavey Mart already takes up the space and that expanding into that space made sense as part of their project.

They have also done other renovations for existing tenants, relocated a few others within the mall and recently opened up the old CO-OP bakery space, moving another bakery business in.

“We renovated it and put Sweet Capone’s in that place, it’s been cut off from Red Apple because they didn’t need that space so we breathed new life into it.”

New life is the whole concept behind the project.

“We are bringing (the mall) into 21st century, it’s our revitalization project,” says Heise. “We want it to continue to be that destination for families. People have told me about when they were kids they would ride down on their bikes and buy candy or hang out at the mall. We want to make it that destination again.”

Outside, the KFC building is up and KFC staff are in building preparing to open this upcoming December.

“We’ve come a long way in five months. We wanted to get underway as soon as we could and we were able to do that with our building partners and contractors.”

Last week, the Lacombe Centre Limited Partnership received approval from the Municipal Planning Committee for their next project, which will be another restaurant next to the KFC.

“We’re just hanging on as we move along like a freight train.”
