The Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce is asking Lacombe residents to nominate companies, farms, and not-for-profits that have had a positive economic impact on the community for their 2022 Chamber Awards.

“The awards are about the community, especially after what they have been through during the pandemic. These awards are the best opportunity for residents to socialize and share it,” said Jeffrey Hangar, executive director of Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce.

Awards include individual, non-for-profit and customer service categories.

The citizen of the year award is given to someone nominated that has shown exceptional commitment to improving the quality of life inclusively for all Lacombe citizens, altruistic leadership, consistent volunteerism, enhancement of community and overall ambassadorship, specifically over the course of the previous year.

There is also the lifetime achievement award which is given to an individual who has shown exceptional dedication to the city and its people for a period of 25 or more years. Typically the nominees all demonstrate a pattern of community involvement and contribution through service and volunteerism with more than one group or event.

The agriculture business or organization of the year can be a family farm, an industry in the agriculture service sector or an organization that embraces the rural and agricultural economy that the city and county were built on.

The chamber said that they should be committed to doing business and buying locally when possible and have an interest in finding new ways to educate future generations about the agricultural industry.

There is also non-for-profit of the year, people’s choice for customer service, small business of the year and large business of the year.

A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects businesses in the categories and recipients will be awarded at the chamber’s annual Business and Community Awards Gala.

Last year the gala was a hybrid event that saw restaurants around the city acting as venues with live streams of awards.

Nominations close on July 8 and can be filled out at lacombechamber.ca/2022-lacombe-awards. Online voting will take place July 25 to August 26.
