Lacombe County council recently approved the creation of a proposed trail, which was presented by the Mirror Community Network.

“Lacombe County is very excited to be able to provide this new amenity in the Hamlet of Mirror,” said Lacombe County Reeve Barb Shepherd. “By supporting the creation of the Mirror Community Trail, we are working with our residents to build a new way to explore nature and live healthier lives.”

The project was initiated in the fall of 2022 by the Mirror Community Network. They proposed to create a walking trail around the Hamlet of Mirror, with a trail north loop and a south loop on either side of Hwy. 50.

Much of the trail route uses existing sidewalks and open spaces; however, select sections pass through undeveloped road allowances, which will require some work to be done for the walking trail to be functional. The project’s startup will include brushing in select areas, installing wayfinding signs, and placing garbage bins and benches along the trail.

Crews will start brushing the trail route by the end of February.

Before the trail construction begins, landowners who may be impacted by its development will be contacted to discuss the proposed work and to talk over any potential concerns.
