Lacombe man arrested in alleged carjacking

A Lacombe man was arrested in Innisfail on July 11 and has been charged with armed robbery and flight from police.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 11, Red Deer RCMP responded to a reported armed robbery of a motor vehicle near the Red Deer Regional Hospital.

The male suspect, Quinten Meyer , 25, alledgely approached a female sitting in her car, displayed a weapon and ordered the woman to exit her vehicle, which she did without injury.

Red Deer RCMP issued a BOLO (be on the look out) for the stolen vehicle along with the suspect’s description.

Thirty minutes later, an officer in Innisfail observed a similar vehicle in a restaurant parking lot.

The officer determined the driver matched the suspect description and attempted to make an arrest. At this time, the suspect fled the parking lot in the vehicle. After tracking the suspect through the town of Innisfail and surrounding rural area for approximately 15 minutes, the stolen vehicle was stopped along 50 street and 42 ave.

The suspect was arrested without incident and transported back to Red Deer.

Meyer faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, mischeif under $5,000 and resisting a peace officer, in addition to the armed robbery and fleeing from police charges.

After a Judicial Hearing, Meyer was remanded into custody. Meyer was scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on July 19, 2021.
