The Lacombe Police Service (LPS) would like to remind motorists to be vigilant when approaching crosswalks. LPS has seen an increase in repeated incidents of motorists failing to stop for pedestrians.

The fine for failing to stop for pedestrians at a crosswalk is $810.00 and 4 demerit points against your license.

“The Lacombe Police will be monitoring motorists in regards to failing to stop at crosswalks and intersection safety in the coming weeks”, states Constable Vaughan Bleasdale. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility, we are asking that motorists watch for people attempting to use crosswalks as the weather improves, and more and more people are out using parks and playgrounds”

LPS would also like to remind the public to ensure social distancing is practised during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The following changes to our everyday routines can help with the spread of the virus.

 Avoid crowded places and gatherings

 Avoiding common greetings, such as handshakes

 Limit contact with people at high risk (e.g. older adults and those in poor health)

 Keeping distance of at least 2 arms lengths (approximately 2 meters) from others, as much as

possible
