Marsha Duggan encourages others to use their imagination

Lacombe resident Marsha Duggan was feeling a little tired with COVID-19 and wanted to do something creative at her summer home near Breton, AB.

Duggan, who has always held a fascination for labyrinths and mazes, felt her getaway place would be perfect place to express her fascination and creativity and she then decided to mow a maze into their property

There are steep hills in spots, so there are some places I can only push up in spots and others I can only drive down. I considered that and the greater area and then I just started mowing,” she said.

The project started small, but after seeing the results from above — after her husband attached a GoPro to a kite — surprised even her.

“I can say, no one was more surprised than me on what the outcome was. It turned out pretty cool,” she said.

The labyrinth has two exits and is about 1.5 km long to walk through. The maze has even turned into a local attraction for the Duggan’s neighbours.

“In the area out there, there was a cougar sighting down the road. My neighbour who lives out there full time doesn’t have much walking room and has to walk down the gravel road. It can get dusty, so I have invited my neighbours to walk it anytime they like,” she said.

Duggan encouraged others to use their imaginations more often.

“I invite people to get a little crazy once in awhile — especially during these tough times. Explore whatever comes into your mind because we are often limited. Our imagination can still be free and there are so many things we can do and then share it with others,” she said.
