The City of Lacombe was recognized with an Overall High Achiever Award for its efforts in fostering healthy eating and active living in Lacombe by Communities ChooseWell at an awards ceremony in Cochrane last month.
“We are honoured to receive this award,” said Recreation and Culture Manager Sandi Stewart. “The City is putting in a lot of effort in providing healthy education; creating healthy recreational opportunities; and reducing barriers to healthy living for our residents.”
City staff was recognized for their public education efforts at the weekly Farmer’s Market; hosting the annual WinterActive Challenge; and for their outreach activities designed to teach young parents on how to eat and live healthy on a budget. The award comes with a $2,000 grant to support healthy eating, and active living-related initiatives in Lacombe.
Communities ChooseWell is an energizing healthy eating and active living initiative supported by Alberta Health and managed by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association.
The goal of Communities ChooseWell is to foster healthy Albertans through education, community capacity building and partnerships that support healthy eating, active living and social wellbeing.
