Sylvan Lake’s Lakeview Cemetery celebrates its 100 year anniversary. The first person interred in the cemetery was on Sept. 21, 1921, and a century later, on Sept. 12, the town commemorates the existence of this historical and sentimental part of the community.
This event was coordinated by the town of Sylvan Lake, with assistance from several volunteers and organizations in the community. Volunteers from Sylvan Lake Archives Society, along with others, provided tours highlighting just a few of the memorable citizens of Sylvan Lake, including veterans. On behalf of the
Indigenous community in this area, guest speaker Clare Butterfly delivered a speech to event attendees. The event also consisted of a march by the Innisfail Legion Pipe Band, and the Legion Colour Guard, getting speech by Mayor Teresa Rilling, Last Post by bugler Macy Lyon and the Innisfail Legion Pipe Band, among others.
