Lincoln Community Society’s Christmas concert taking shape

Popular annual event set to run Dec. 9 at Lincoln Hall

It’s time to celebrate the season with the Lincoln Community Society’s Christmas concert slated for Dec. 9 at Lincoln Hall.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and admission is by donation.

Folks are invited to join the community for an evening of music presented by local youth and community residents, said Merrigold Long, one of the event’s organizers.

And of course, Santa will be making an appearance as well, she said.

“I would call it an old-fashioned Christmas concert,” she said.

It’s a community tradition that extends a long way back, too, with the original hall having been built in 1927, she said. “I’ve been here for 45 years, and there was always a concert as long as I remember,” said Long.

“I also wouldn’t be surprised if it had started right away because in those days they often did have a community Christmas concert,” she added. “So it does go back a long, long way.”

The focus has remained on encouraging anyone in the community to take part, she said.

That has included everything from folks giving recitations to others performing solos or as a group. Kids have always been included, too.

“There’s been lots of music and lots of kids playing a variety of instruments,” she said. “It’s been very well attended over the years, too.” A number of community organizations have also been very supportive of the concert as well.

With the concerts having been canceled in 2020 and 2021, it’s great to see things coming together so well for this year’s event, said Long.

“It’s also very important for kids to have this outlet to perform, too – it’s very beneficial for them.

“They are all excited that Santa is coming, too!”

As mentioned, donations are accepted at the door to help cover any related expenses to staging the event.
