The second annual ‘A Night Among Stars’ - powered by Lacombe Ford - will hit the dance floor on March 11th at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
This gala, put on by Dancer’s Edge Association, supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lacombe and District.
The night will showcase seven local celebrities from across central Alberta during a dance-off style event, said Mandy Walter, president of the Dancer’s Edge Parents Association (DEPA).
She said that DEPA helps with the organization of various fundraisers to help support Dancer’s Edge with a number of costs related to competitive dance.
“This is our second A Night Among Stars event - the first one took place in March of 2020,” she said, adding that the first rendition was a huge success.
“We were able to raise a lot for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and also put some money back into our competitive and travel troupe dancers.”
Meanwhile, this year’s celebrities include Darren King, Charmen Baron, Jeff Pollard, Wendy Griffin, Will Hendrickson, Ben James, and Ben Darnell.
These dancers and their professionals have been working diligently since November on their choreography with styles ranging from Hip Hop to Polynesian.
The evening will also include a fabulous dinner and other entertainment plus a performance from Dancer’s Edge students as well.
“Every celebrity has their own Zeffy account to raise funds that will go directly back into Big Brothers Big Sisters,” she explained.
At the end of the night, the audience will see who the judges vote on to become the 2023 winner.

Brianna Berthiaume, executive director for Big Brothers Big Sisters, agreed with Walter that the first event back in 2020 was amazing.
“Everyone just really supports the local celebrities, cheering them on, and they are really excited to see them perform. The judges do vote at the end of the night, but they are all winners based on all of the efforts that they have put into making this come together through putting on these amazing performances,” she said of the participants.
“There is also a red carpet, so everyone is also expected to dress pretty fancy so they can walk down the carpet, take some photos and just really celebrate.
“I really want to see everyone’s outfits and the music they choose,” she said with a chuckle. “I’m so excited. A lot of the celebrities are keeping their choice of music and what they are going to do pretty hush-hush. They are also really putting themselves out there to support and advocate and show what our community can do for non-profits like Big Brothers Big Sisters,” she said.
