Ponoka RCMP lay charges in catalytic converter theft

Suspects are from Lacombe and Wainright, Alta.

On Aug. 29, 2020 at 6 p.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a theft of a catalytic converter.

Police attended the 5500 block of 57 Ave. in Ponoka and located the suspects in a parked vehicle.

As a result of the initial investigation, both suspects were arrested without incident in relation to the theft of the catalytic converter and mischief to the vehicle.

Further investigation has resulted in the discovery of mischief to, and a theft of mail from an additional motor vehicle.

Other suspected stolen property including two additional catalytic converters, coiled wiring and an electric vehicle battery was recovered.

Cody Saxton, 35, of Wainwright, Alta., and Tellisa Jackson-Reed, 31, of Lacombe, Alta. have been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, two counts of mischief under $5,000 and two counts of theft under $5,000.

Following a Judicial Hearing, both were released on conditions and are next scheduled to appear in Ponoka Provincial Court on Sept. 24, 2021.

The investigation continues however as these matters are now before the courts, no further details will be provided.
